Assignments

Claire 5&5

Observations:
1. A lot of maternal connotations
2. Earthy tones
3. Use of space
4. Different mediums (frosting)
5. Metals and welding

Questions:
1. Do the subjects of your pieces reflect your life?
2. What inspired you to take a picture of dirt?
3. What is your favorite medium to work with?
4. What was the reason behind putting frosting on the women's faces?
5. Are you satisfied with what you have done in your career?

Afterwards:
After skyping with the artist, I realized that her artwork very much matches her personality. The pieces she created reflect on who she is as a person and her lifestyle. She was my favorite artist to date.

Jason Hackett 5 & 5

Observations:
1. He uses feet in a lot of his artwork.
2. There are religious references in his pieces.
3. He uses some vintage memorabilia.
4. One piece doesn't seem to mesh well.
5. Some are bought and some are made.

Questions:
1. Do you use your own religious beliefs to influence your art?
2. What inspired you to use feet?
3. Have you tried other mediums aside from ceramics?
4. How do these pieces reflect you and your personality?

5. What do these pieces mean to you? Jason Hackett Afterwards

Before skyping with Mr. Hackett, I had no clue what his artwork represented, or even what they were supposed to look like. Most of it seemed random and had no thought put into it. Afterwards, I can appreciate what he put into his work, although I still don't understand it. Tim Roda Revisit 3/2

After the Skype session with Mr. Roda, I revisited his site and was able to understand his work more clearly. Before, I was confused at what the message was that the artist was trying to get across. Now that I know where he has been and what he's gone through and his inspirations, his work makes more sense to me and I can appreciate even more.

Color Assignment 2/19
I chose the color red because it can stand for many emotions. Rage and love are the main ones. They are two polar opposite feelings, yet they can be portrayed with the same color.

Notes on Other Groups Links

Group 1: Arbuckle, Bono, Mastrogiovanni
The image for texture was very interesting, although some of the photos were hard to distinguish what was being portrayed. Overall, nice job.

Group 2: Cole-Kweli, Fitzgibbons, Delisi
The picture for movement really caught our eye. The group made their pictures unique by using odd angles.

Group 3: Hamilton, Ligrani, Petruccelli, Shcherbakova
The image being portrayed as space was really strong. It made us feel like we are actually at UT. We noticed, though, that the pictures for balance and rhythm were fairly similar.

Group 4: Honda, Marsh, Baker
We felt like all of the pictures strongly represented the terms.

Group 5: Cimon, Jablonowski, Moskowitz
Although most of the pictures were fairly represented, our group did not understand why they chose the image they did for movement.

Group 6: Lewis, Williams, Shuman
Our group agreed that the image they used for color was really breathtaking.

Group 7: Sanger, Robinson, Orzel
We thought that the image with the palm tree and minaret was edited very nicely, but we couldn't figure out which term it belonged to.

5 Observations
1. There are no human subjects in the photography section.
2. A lot of color was used in the photography section, but sculptures are mostly earth tones.
3. Videos have very abstract concepts.
4. The artist's resume is very extensive.
5. The layout of the site is very simple, maybe as to not draw attention away from the content.

5 Questions
1. Why do you choose to photograph inanimate objects rather than people?
2. Where do you get your inspiration from for your sculptures?
3. Is having your work online more beneficial for your career?
4. Do you manage the website yourself?
5. What gave you the idea to film instead of just using still photography?
