Projects

Final Group Project:
Ashley, Dan, Tony, Jess, and Diana

Our project is based on the point of view of a college student. The process of this project was taking photos that represented the typical college life, editing them, and choosing an order to put them in so the project has a nice flow to it. Our first photo is multi framed. It is a sequence of a college student starting to study. The photo also consists of framing of the image, point of view, shape, movement and line. The second photo represents Life and Death . To a student getting a good grade on an exam is everything and getting a bad grade is like death. This also has framing of the image and emphasis,. The third photo moves on to what a college student do in their free time. On nice days a lot of students like to throw a football around. It is a symbol for an american lifestyle because football is a great representative of what american like to do.It also  has shape, color, and space. The next photo is a metaphor for "Party Animal". To represent this metaphor we used stuffed animal surrounded by alcohol. It also has texture, color, shape, and variety. Our final picture is of a girl "coming out of the closet". It is a double entendre. College is a time when a lot of people realize who they are and aren't afraid to hide it so that is why we decided to use it for our double entendre.

Tim Roda

5 observations:
1. Only one group of pictures were in color.
2. His subjects are in abstract positions and scenes.
3. The rest of his work was in black and white.
4. The site was easy to navigate with the groupings of pictures.
5. There was a very simple layout.

5 questions:
1. Where do you get your inspirations from?
2. Why don't you use color in most of your pieces?
3. Have you worked in other mediums aside from photography?
4. Why do you use your subjects in such abstract ways?
5. What made you want to pursue this career in photography?

Three Frames

Group Photo Project

Photos by: Hazel Marie Sison, Ziona Wright, Jessie Mckneelen

Variety: This is a picture of a common college night shared between suitemates. There's a variety of contrast, texture, and the even the amounts of oil. There's a sliver of a rug, smooth, wooden floor, and a metal chair leg in the picture. Then for the more obvious, there's a crumpled paper towel, oily cardboard box, a smooth plate, and then the pizza. Variety can be easily seen in our everyday lives, even during the hardest nights.

Rhythm: The bottles, though different in shape, size, and color, show a repeating lined up pattern and still have a similar color palette and texture. They are lined in a single row and all lead your eye in a continuous direction. *note: the bottles are not mine, nor have been consumed from recently

Emphasis: The flower in the front is the most focused on subject in the picture. Its contrast against the dark grass helps emphasize its light petals and, in my opinion, the transparency of the wet petals itself really make the flower stand out because of how rare it is to notice. After looking at the flower, your eye should have gone slightly towards the left to where the transparency is even more obvious.

Color: I chose this picture to reference color. It's a monochromatic photo with a cool color of blue throughout, but even though that's the only color, the different hues of that single color due to the lights and opacity of the jellyfish's body make it interesting.

Shape: There are many enclosed areas (circles) that incorporate different lines, color, and even smaller circles within the circle.

Texture: Not only can you see the the lines and natural cracks of the lips, but the little hairs surrounding it as well.

Harmony: This picture carries both lightness and darkness and also contains solid objects as well as the flames. Although these comparisons are really harsh in contrast, they work well together.

Proportion: In reality, the lollipop is much smaller than a human head, but due to the distance and positioning of the hand, it can appear as big as a human head.

Unity: All five of the Thomas Kincaid pictures represent unity. They work together to bring the wall together.

Space: The three items on the dresser represent space. They are spread apart evenly.

Movement: The running water represents movement.

Balance: The items on the shelf represent balance. The placement of the objects are similar on both sides.

Line: The folds on the camera show an obvious pattern of lines in the creases of the lens.
